The next time you use public transportation in Akron, you can take pride in the fact that the city’s transit authority has recently been honored as one of the best in the nation.
Metro RTA is one of four public transit systems nationwide to be named an outstanding public transportation system for 2025 by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), according to a press release.
The other three winners were the transit authorities in Monterey, California, Salt Lake City, Utah and Washington, D.C., APTA announced.
“It is my honor to congratulate the winners of the 2025 APTA Awards and the Hall of Fame inductees for their dedication to advancing the future of public transportation, creating vital connections between communities, and driving innovation,” MJ Maynard-Carey, APTA board chair and CEO, Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, said in the release.
The 2025 APTA Awards recognize organizations and leaders in the public transportation industry in North America who have demonstrated significant leadership, are outstanding role models of excellence, and whose accomplishments and innovations have greatly advanced public transportation, the nonprofit association said.
APTA honored 13 organizations and leaders with its APTA Awards for their vision, leadership and commitment to public transportation, the statement read. Six new members will also be inducted into the APTA Hall of Fame.
“The achievements and legacies of our awardees inspire us all to continue striving for excellence in our industry and to making a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals,” APTA President and CEO Paul P. Skoutelas said in the release. “Congratulations to all who have been recognized for their accomplishments and for making positive impacts in their communities and our industry.”
The 2025 APTA Awards will be presented Sept. 14-17 in Boston at the company’s TRANSform conference and expo.
