Meet the winners of the inaugural Great Outhouse Race at Zane's Trace Commemoration

ZANESVILLE – It wasn’t all smooth sailing in the Zane’s Trace Commemoration wacky, first-ever outhouse race. Some buggies nearly veered into parked vehicles, while one porta-potty cart came off its wheels entirely.

The three-person group made up of Brayden Starcher, Aiden Cross, and Viper Funk used their outhouse and go-kart hybrid to zip into first place, out of five overall participants.

Blackford Farms’ red, white, and blue buggy won second place and the silver toilet seat. Fondales Tavern orange outhouse won best in show.

Participants had to jury-rig outhouses into moving vehicles. One team member was required to sit in the outhouse, while the others pushed the buggies down a 300-foot track, starting at the intersection of Muskingum Avenue and Jefferson Street.

The race was just of the many events for the 2025 Zane’s Trace Commemoration that also included historical exhibits of local railroads, blacksmith demonstrations, concerts, professional wrestling, the annual parade, Anything But a Boat race, and carriage rides.
