McDonald’s says it’s turning up the heat this summer by adding three new breakfast items to the menu that feature a spicy twist on an old classic — the iconic egg McMuffin.
Starting July 8, McDonald’s will launch the spicy McMuffin, spicy sausage McMuffin and spicy sausage McMuffin with egg. However, unlike the return of McDonald’s Snack Wraps, these additions are only around for a limited time, the company announced in a news release.
Here’s how to get one for yourself.
What’s inside McDonald’s new Spicy McMuffin breakfast sandwiches?
Similar to the classic egg McMuffin, the spicy variations feature melted cheese, egg, Canadian bacon or sausage, and a buttered English muffin, but they are also topped with a shot of McDonald’s spicy pepper sauce.
Menu offerings also include the spicy sausage McMuffin and the spicy sausage McMuffin with egg.
McDonald’s spicy sausage McMuffin has 460 calories, according to the chain’s nutritional information, while a regular egg McMuffin has 310 calories.
How long will the Spicy McMuffin be available?
The spicy McMuffin will only be available for a limited time, at participating locations, starting on Tuesday, July 8, USA TODAY reports, though McDonald’s didn’t specify how long the breakfast items will stay on the menus.
“[D]on’t snooze too long…the spicy McMuffin won’t last forever,” the company’s press release reads.
A 2018 McDonald’s page states that a promotional run can last “for six or eight weeks, but it depends entirely on the promotion itself.”
How many McDonald’s locations are in Ohio?
There are 616 McDonald’s restaurants in Ohio, according to web scraping tool ScrapeHero. Only California, Texas, Florida and Illinois have more locations than Ohio.
McDonald’s Egg McMuffin celebrates its 50th anniversary
The original egg McMuffin has roots that date back to 1975. That’s when Herb Peterson, a McDonald’s franchisee in Santa Barbara, California, launched what was intended to be a different take on Eggs Benedict, according to USA TODAY.
The spicy versions are part of McDonald’s 50th anniversary celebrations for the McMuffin.
