Massillon closes highly traveled road for much of summer for storm sewer project

MASSILLON – A highly traveled city road will be closed for the bulk of summer for an infrastructure project.

Tremont Avenue SW — between 17th Street SW and 22nd Street SW — is shut down through Aug. 31 for a storm sewer repair, city Engineer Alex Pitts said.

The area was closed for much of last week for investigative work, but fully closed June 23 for the start of utility upgrades, Pitts said.

The cost of the work is $650,000, he said, adding that money from the American Rescue Plan Act is funding the effort approved by City Council.

The five-block section is closed to through traffic. Detour signs are posted.

Massillon has used most of its approximately $16 million in ARPA funding for rebuilding infrastructure, such as stormwater drainage and sanitary pipe projects, as well as street repaving.
