Firefighting is a family affair.

Compton began his career with Mansfield Fire in 2018, as part of a class of four new firefighters into the department. Since then, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to the fire service and to the citizens he serves, Crow said.

Currently assigned to Station 4 on A-Crew as a hazmat technician, Compton will be reassigned to Station 2 on B-Crew following his promotion.

The 29-year-old man is a 2015 graduate of Lexington High School.

“I’m excited for the next step,” he said and wanted to become lieutenant to give back to the newer firefighters.

In the Mansfield Fire Department, the rank of lieutenant serves as the first level of supervision on the fireground and within the station. Lieutenants lead a crew of four firefighters, ensure daily readiness, coordinate training and serve as company officers on emergency scenes — making critical decisions while prioritizing crew safety and effective operations, the chief said.

He obtained his firefighter and EMT certifications in 2016, and later earned his paramedic certification in 2018, continuing to build his knowledge and skillset. Compton also works at Washington Township Fire Department and follows in his father Mansfield Fire Capt. Dave Compton’s footsteps. His dad is the fire chief at Washington Township and Adam’s uncle, Rich Compton, is the fire chief at Troy Township Fire Department.

Compton has had the opportunity to serve alongside his father, Captain Dave Compton, who has been a member of the Mansfield Fire Department since 1996 and currently oversees the department’s training division.

The father-son connection reflects a strong legacy of service, mentorship and dedication to the profession, making the promotion even more meaningful for their family and the department, Crow said.

Compton and his wife Reagan have a son, Sterling, who is 21 months old.

Following the recent retirement announcement of Lt. Jim Odson, the promotion reflects Compton’s dedication, experience and readiness to step into a leadership role, Crow said.
