AEP Ohio crews continue working to restore power following afternoon storms Aug. 10 that left nearly 14,000 people without power in Licking and Franklin counties.
There were 11,500 people without power in Licking County and an additional 2,400 without power in Franklin County at about noon, according to the AEP Ohio outages map.
As of 5:35 p.m., the number in Licking County was down to about 7,196 customer outages. Franklin County outages had been reduced to 198.
A flash flood warning was issued at 1 p.m. Aug. 10 for Delaware, Franklin, Licking, Fairfield, Madison, Pickaway and Union Counties as storms rolled through central Ohio, with forecasters warning the active weather pattern could continue for much of the week. By mid-afternoon the National Weather Service said any major flooding risk had ended, but a flood watch will remain in effect until Wednesday morning as rainwater runoff could overflow creeks and rivers, underpasses and areas with poor drainage.
The National Weather Service estimates that between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen so far in Franklin and Delaware Counties, with another 0.5 to 1 inch possible Aug. 10.
Several additional thunderstorms are expected to hit the area through the night of Aug. 11. An additional severe thunderstorm watch is in place for Delaware, Franklin, Madison, Fairfield, Hocking, Pickaway, Fayette, Licking and Union Counties in central Ohio as of 2:45 p.m. This advisory will remain in effect until 8 p.m. Aug. 10.
Damaging wind gusts and flash flooding are possible and the rain will likely stick around all this week, according to the forecast.
