HARTVILLE ‒ Lake Local Schools, in partnership with local law enforcement, fire, emergency medical and emergency management agencies, will conduct a safety drill at Lake Middle High School.
The exercise, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 12, will allow school personnel and first responders to practice coordinated response to a serious emergency.
Participating agencies will include the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, Hartville Police Department, Uniontown Police Department, Hartville Fire Department, Uniontown Fire Department, Greentown Fire Department, and the Stark County Rescue Taskforce.
No students will be present or participating in the drill. Lake Local staff members will portray students and other individuals involved in the simulated emergency, school officials said.
The exercise will include the district’s reunification procedures, allowing staff to practice accounting for students, identifying missing individuals, communicating critical information and safely reuniting students with their families following an emergency.
The drill is designed to be realistic. Community members may notice a significant presence of police vehicles, fire apparatus, ambulances, and other emergency personnel around the school. This activity is part of the planned exercise and does not indicate an actual emergency.
Representatives from other schools and community organizations will also attend as observers so they can learn from the exercise and strengthen their own emergency response procedures.
