Madison Reemsnyder was in a three-way tie for first place after two rounds for the Xavier women’s golf team at the Big East Conference Championship. She needed a big final round — and she got it Monday, April 27 in Okatie, S.C.
The senior from GlenOak High School posted a final-round, 5-under 67 to win medalist honors going away to lead the Musketeers to their seventh straight Big East title.
Reemsnyder finished 7-under for the three rounds with a 209 total, shooting an even-par 72 in the first round and a 2-under 70 in the second. She was the only golfer in the 42-player field to finish under par. The 67 final round was the second lowest score in tournament history, and her nine-stroke victory was the largest finish since 2019.
It was Reemsnyder’s second straight individual title. She was named Big East Golfer of the Week on April 23 after she topped a field of 57 at the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational with a 3-under 213, April 17-18, in Columbus.
The Big East victory earned Xavier a spot in the NCAA Louisville Regionals, May 11-13.
Tess Bucher (Hoover)
The sophomore was a key performer for the Illinois women’s tennis team (13-13, 7-6 Big Ten). Bucher posted 9-13 overall record playing either four, five or six singles. She was 4-6 in Big Ten matches. In doubles, Bucher played at No. 1 and was 14-17.
Luke Senften (GlenOak)
The junior is the leading hitter on the Findlay baseball team (31-15, 22-6 first place G-MAC North). Senften is hitting .345 with 57 hits in 156 at-bats. He is tied for first in doubles with 15, has four home runs and is second on the team in both runs (37) and RBIs (46). He’s 7-for-11 in stolen bases.
Cara Murphy (Jackson)
The freshman finished seventh out of 64 entrants to help the West Chester women’s golf team to a second-place finish in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship and earn a berth in the NCAA Division II East Regionals next week in Findlay. Murphy finished with a 239 total (80-77-82). She tied for the lead with six birdies and topped the field on the par 5s with a plus-1 average.
Mahlina McFadden (Hoover)
The 5-foot-9 freshman midfielder has played in 17 games with three starts for the 13-5 Charleston (W.Va.) women’s lacrosse team. She has 11 goals on 22 shots on goals with five assists for 16 points along with 11 draw controls, eight ground balls and six caused turnovers. McFadden has tallied two goals in four games, the latest in a 25-4 Mountain East Conference victory over Point Park on April 15.
Caleb Collins (Lake)
The junior third baseman has started all 44 games for the California, Pa. baseball team (25-19, 13-11 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference). Collins is hitting .293 (41-for-140) with nine doubles, 23 runs and 23 RBIs. He’s 7-for-10 stealing bases. At third base, has made six errors on 121 chances (.950).
Connor Shingleton (Minerva)
The senior posted personal records in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 1,500 for the Youngstown State men’s track team. And they came in two highly talented meets. Shingleton finished seventh out of 15 runners in the steeplechase with a time of 9:01.64 at the Wake Forest Invitational on April 17. On April 13, he finished ninth out of 92 entrants in the 1,500 (4:44.48) at the Bison Open.
Hunter Bays (Lake)
The Lake Erie baseball team is just 9-34(8-20 G-MAC), but the sophomore left-hander is doing a job as closer for the Storm. Bays is 1-4 with a team-high four saves. Bays’ victory came when he pitched the final four innings and gave up four hits, a run, a walk and three strikeouts in a 14-6 triumph over Walsh on March 29. In 15 games, he has given up 30 hits and 21 runs, 18 earned, with 18 strikeouts.
Ryan Irvin (West Branch)
The versatile senior finished third in the 110 hurdles (15:01) and third in the javelin throw (140-6) at the Bill Kinnard Invitational on April 25 in Wilmington. In six meets this spring, Irvin has a second, two thirds and a fourth-place finish in the 110 hurdles and posted a personal-record 14.48 at the Otterbein Twilight Meet on April 17. He also competes in the 100 and 200 and with the 4×100 relay.

She and her partner dropped a tough 6-4 decision at No. 1 doubles. Williams played No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and was solid at No. 3 singles all season long for the Spirit (5-11, 1-4 USA South Conference). The team had six freshmen and no seniors on its roster.
