LOUISVILLE − Council member Mycha Mills has resigned from the job, citing personal reasons.
Mills, a photographer and business owner, was elected to a council post in 2023. In her resignation letter, she said serving on city council “has been a true honor.”
“During my time on council, I am proud to have supported initiatives that strengthen our city, uplift local businesses, and enhance the overall quality of life for Louisville residents,” Mills wrote.
“Recently, a family matter has arisen that requires my full and immediate attention. After much thoughtful consideration, I have made the decision to step away from my role on council in order to prioritize my family.”
Mills said her family remains involved in the Louisville community, and her daughters will remain enrolled in the school district.
In an email, Mills said she’s proud of what she accomplished while a city council member.
“My daughters got to watch their Mom serve, lead and make an impact in this little corner of the world,” she said.
Louisville City Manager Andrew Turowski said council has 30 days to appoint someone to fill the open seat. If council is unable to fill the vacancy within the time frame, the mayor can appoint someone.
Turowski said the city will be putting out an announcement inviting interested residents to apply.
“The goal is to get a good pool of residents who are interested to apply and give city council an opportunity to speak with them and find out who would be the most fit,” he said.
The appointed council member will serve the remainder of Mills’ term, which runs through the end of 2027.
Louisville City Council consists of five at-large members, including the mayor-council member. The 2026 salary for council members is $385.39 per month.
