BYESVILLE − The Ohio Occupational Health and Safety Administration is investigating an incident in which a 27-year-old Lancaster man died after he was shocked by electricity and fell off a ladder while working at Meadowbrook High School.
According to a release from the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred shortly before 9 a.m. April 11.
While the sheriff’s office gave the victim’s age and city of residency, it would not release his name nor the name of the company that employed him.
Dispatchers were informed a man had been shocked while working for a contracted company at the facility, which is under renovation. Sheriff’s deputies and Byesville Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene.
Deputies learned the man was on a ladder at the time and fell about six feet. EMS personnel performed life-saving measures on the victim. He was transported to Ohio Health Southeastern Medical Center in Cambridge, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the release.
Summit Construction of Plain City is the construction manager for the $43.8 million project, which includes renovations and additions to Meadowbrook High School. The new structure will house an estimated 1,500 students from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade and a career tech program, according to Summit’s website.
It’s not known if the victim was employed by Summit Construction or a subcontractor.
