A 29-year-old man from Kent died early Saturday, Aug. 22, after a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer, Streetsboro police said.
The Kent man has been identified as Andrew Glantz, said Streetsboro police Lt. Richard Polivka.
The accident occurred when Glantz, who was driving a 2012 Nissan Altima south on state Route 43, traveled left of center into the northbound lanes, police said in a news release. The Nissan collided head-on with a northbound tractor-trailer driven by a 55-year-old man from Akron.
The truck driver called 911 around 2:30 a.m. He reported an engine fire that police said appears to have been contained within the engine compartment and did not spread to the passenger compartment of the Nissan. The fire was put out shortly after police officers arrived.
Glantz died at the scene. The truck driver was “shaken up” but had no visible injuries, police said.
The crash occurred in a 50 mph zone.
The Summit Metro Crash team, which includes investigators from Summit and Portage Counties, was called to the scene to investigate.
Route 43 was closed between Ethan Avenue and Frost Road for several hours, reopening at 7:40 a.m.
