ALLIANCE — Mount Union did not have to look far to find a men’s basketball coach.
The university has promoted longtime assistant Josh Twiddy to head coach. He replaces Mike Fuline, who resigned to become an assistant coach at the University of Cincinnati.
Twiddy’s selection comes as no surprise. He takes over less than a week after Fuline’s resignation.
“Josh has been an integral part of the Mount Union men’s basketball program as an assistant and has demonstrated his dedication to the development of our student-athletes,” Mount Union athletic director Mike Parnell said in a statement. “His understanding of the Mount Union standard and tradition makes him the right choice to lead our team forward.”
Twiddy joined Fuline’s staff in 2012. He helped lead the Purple Raiders to four Ohio Athletic Conference regular season championships, two OAC Tournament titles, four NCAA Division III Tournament berths and a national runner-up finish in 2023.
“I am sincerely grateful for the privilege of leading this program and excited for our returning players, coaches and staff,” Twiddy said in a release issued by the university. “This opportunity is a credit to our current players and staff and to the many former players and assistant coaches who helped build this program.
“I also want to thank Mike and the entire Fuline family for their unwavering support and for all they have done for my family and for this program. Mike brought me onto his staff in 2012, and I will always be grateful for that opportunity. I am excited for him and look forward to seeing him succeed at Cincinnati.”
A Uniontown native, Twiddy graduated from the University of Akron and served as a graduate assistant with the Zips. He also worked with the NBA G League, assisting with player development and preparing for the NBA Draft.
