John Glenn softball rolls to early wins, March 23-25 top performers

NEW CONCORD — Delaney Bell fired a three-hitter and host John Glenn made the most of seven hits in a 7-1 win against visiting Indian Valley in a girls high school softball game on March 25.

Estelle Matheney had three singles, drove in a run and scored three times for John Glenn (3-0), which scored five times in the first three innings to build a 5-1 lead. The Braves (0-3) committed five errors.

Ava Miller tripled and singled with an RBI and Kinley Porter added a double and single with an RBI for John Glenn, which had six players collect hits. The Braves were held to seven singles.

Tuesday’s results

Softball

John Glenn 14, Cambridge 0: The Muskies pounded out 14 hits, including homers from Addison Babcock and Kendall Snider, in a nonleague rout at Cambridge City Park.

Snider fired a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts and Libby Brown had four RBIs for John Glenn; Babcock also had a double and single with three RBIs. Ava Miller had two singles and two RBIs.

Maysville 18, Millersport 2 (5 inn.): Evee Matthews ripped a homer and two double and drove in four to lead an 18-hit attack for the Panthers, who scored 13 times in the fifth inning in a nonleague win against the Lakers.

Lilah Jones added a double and three singles with three RBIs and Sophie Dennis cracked three doubles with four RBIs as Maysville had eight players with multiple hits. The Panthers led 5-2 after four innings.

Lily Tumblin picked up the win with six strikeouts.

New Lex 6, Philo 5: The visiting Panthers trailed 4-0 after four innings, but Jorja Burkhart fueled a late rally in a Muskingum Valley League crossover win at the Philo Athletic Complex.

Tied at 5 in the sixth, Jorja Burkhart’s run-scoring groundout provided the deciding run. One inning prior, Burkhart smacked a two-run double to help aid the comeback.

Mia Metzger had two singles and pitched a complete game to get the win.

Cassidy Himes had three singles and Dilyn Brown and Parker Hina two each for Philo (1-1), which topped Indian Valley, 5-4, in 8 innings in its season opener behind three singles from Autumn Hartman.

Ridgewood 12, Claymont 9: The Generals (3-0) pounded out 16 hits to overcome seven errors in an Inter-Valley Conference-South Division win in Uhrichsville.

Abby Johnson doubled and singled and Peyton Lawhun had two singles for Claymont.

Monday’s results

Softball

Crooksville 7, Beverly Fort Frye 5: Dalena Rollison launched a solo homer and Paige Frame had three singles for the visiting Ceramics (3-0), who built a 7-2 lead in the seventh before holding on for a nonleague win in Beverly.

Elyse Baker went the distance with 10 strikeouts for Crooksville, which had five extra-base hits — Rollison also doubled, while Lexi Van Meter and Kellie Caton smacked triples.

Crooksville picked up an 11-1, 15-7 home sweep of Amanda-Clearcreek on March 21.

Mylin Driggs had four singles and Rollison tripled to pace the Ceramics in the opener; Baker pitched five innings to get the win.

Driggs launched a homer and Rollison doubled twice in the nightcap, while freshman Khloee Watts pitched five innings to get the win.
