Through eight weeks of the 2025 college football season, Ohio State football has shown there is a notable gap in talent and production between itself and the rest of the country.
The Buckeyes confirmed that statement with a 34-0 win over former Ohio State defensive end Luke Fickell and Wisconsin to go into its second idle week of the season with a perfect 7-0 record. Ohio State is one of just five Power 4 teams still undefeated on the year.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Julian Sayin has picked up where Will Howard left off on offense, as the Buckeyes’ playmaker has the third-best odds of winning the Heisman Trophy at +400 on BetMGM.
On top of Sayin’s contributions on offense, a large factor in the Buckeyes’ dominance this season has been the level its defense has played at under Matt Patricia. The Buckeyes’ defense leads the country in red zone defense (50%), scoring defense (5.86 points per game) and third down conversion percentage defense (21.3%) while ranking second in total defense (216.9 yards per game).
The Buckeyes are looking to be the first back-to-back college football national champions since Georgia in 2022.

No, Ohio State is on its second bye week of the 2025 season. The Buckeyes return to action next week when they host Penn State for a noon ET kickoff on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Ohio Stadium.
The Buckeyes, who have taken each of the last eight meetings against Penn State, will face a much different Nittany Lions team than they have in past years. At 3-4 overall and 0-4 in Big Ten play, Penn State has an interim head coach in Terry Smith and a new quarterback in Ethan Grunkemeyer. James Franklin was fired and starting QB Drew Allar sustained a season-ending injury vs. Northwestern.
Next week’s game vs. Penn State is a game that Ohio State fans have had circled on their calendars since the schedule was released. The reason? It’s Jim Knowles’ first game in Columbus since he left Ohio State to be Penn State’s defensive coordinator.
