A Portage County jury convicted an imprisoned man on charges that he broke into a Randolph Township home, where he was accused of assaulting a woman in March 2024.
Portage County Prosecutor Connie Lewandowski said in a news release that, after a three-day trial, a jury convicted Walter Oliver Green Jr., 51, on July 10 of first-degree felony aggravated burglary and three counts of first-degree misdemeanor violating a protection order.
Green was not convicted of third-degree felony strangulation and fourth-degree felony domestic violence. Sentencing information was not immediately available.
Green had previously lived in the home, but is currently incarcerated after pleading guilty in a separate felony assault case. Court records also include another Randolph address for him.
Green’s attorney could not be reached for comment.
“A jury found Walter Green guilty on a violent assault of his close female friend after unlawfully entering her home and then attacking her,” Lewandowski said. “The verdict affirms that there is no place in our community for violence against women. No one has the right to terrorize or harm another person, especially in the sanctity of their own home. We commend the victim for her strength and courage in coming forward and standing up for justice.”
The prosecutor’s office said that according to testimony during the trial, Green and the woman had been friends until he began making threats against her and her children. He then broke into the home on March 9, 2024, and reportedly assaulted the woman while she was getting ready to go to work. A male member of the household restrained Green and forced him to leave.
A grand jury indictment specifies that Green broke into the home with the intention of inflicting or attempting to inflict harm on the woman. According to court records, Green allegedly grabbed the woman’s throat, restricting her breathing, and threatened to hit her with his fist.
In a separate case, Doherty sentenced Green to 16 months in prison in March after he pleaded guilty to fourth-degree felony assault. According to court records, Green bit and fractured the pinky finger of another man while they were both inmates in October in Portage County Jail.
Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction online records say Green is incarcerated in that case at the Correctional Reception Center in Pickaway County.
