I-270 eastbound lanes reopen hours after shooting prompted hours-long closure

A shooting on Interstate 270 eastbound on the North Side of Columbus closed the busy stretch of highway for several hours on Oct. 8 and sent at least one person to the hospital.

The highway was closed for several hours after a caller reported that someone fired shots shortly after 1 p.m. from a moving vehicle on the highway near the Interstate 71 interchange, according to a city dispatcher. It reopened sometime after 4:30 p.m. Oct. 8, a dispatcher said.

Bullets struck several cars and a building. Paramedics took one person to Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in stable condition after they were hit by glass or shrapnel, the dispatcher said.

The eastbound lanes of the road from the 71 interchange to State Route 315 were shut down as part of the police investigation. Police have not publicly identified a suspect.
