Do you ever feel like you’re living the same day over and over again?
No, we’re not talking about the mundanity that comes with wintertime. We’re referencing the premise of the 1993 film “Groundhog Day” starring Bill Murray. In it, Murray plays a cynical TV weatherman named Phil Connors who relives the same day over and over again in which he reports on the Groundhog Day event in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

If you’re looking to cozy up and watch the classic 1993 film “Groundhog Day,” here’s where you can rent it, buy it or stream it.

When is Groundhog Day 2026?
Groundhog Day is Monday, Feb. 2, 2026. Though not a federal holiday, Americans tune in the same day every year to see if the famed groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, sees his shadow.
The festivities take place at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, and are broadcast via Visit Pennsylvania’s website at visitpa.com/live-stream-phils-prediction.
What is Groundhog Day?
In the American tradition of Groundhog Day, Punxsutawney Phil takes a stance on the season ahead. If he sees his shadow, he predicts six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t, it’s a forecast of an early spring.
The first official Groundhog Day happened Feb. 2, 1887, in the very town it is celebrated in today. The holiday made a permanent home at Gobbler’s Knob the following year.
Unfortunately for Phil fanatics, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said he had only gotten it right about 35% of the time between 2005 and 2024.
