Hilliard City Council has approved two resolutions to help clear the way for Hilliard City Schools to spend a $142-million bond issue voters passed last year.
Conditional land uses for a new building for Beacon Elementary School and an expansion for a preschool at Norwich Elementary School have been granted by a 5-0 vote at the council’s Aug. 25 meeting.
Jackie Yeoman, the city’s deputy planning director, told City Council that the existing building for Beacon Elementary School will stay on the site until the new building is complete.
The bond issue includes building three new elementary schools in Hilliard, The Dispatch previously reported. All the buildings are the same size.
The district is starting with Beacon Elementary School first because the new building can be built while class continues in the older building.
Redistricting could be on the horizon to balance enrollment throughout Hilliard City Schools.
