Hey, Muskingum County! Here's what you need to know to start your week

I-70 work continues by ODOT

ZANESVILLE − The Ohio Department of Transportation is continuing full depth replacement of Interstate 70 through Zanesville. The eastbound left lane of I-70 will be closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly from May 31 to June 2 for for contraflow repairs from the Underwood on-ramp to the Ohio 93 off-ramp. The westbound contraflow lane will be closed for repairs from May 31 to June 2. The westbound right lane will be closed for work from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. June 2 to 3. McIntire Avenue will be closed to traffic from 5 p.m. June 2 to 5 p.m. June 3. Nightly lane closures on Linden Avenue will be from June 3 to July 1.

Local Habitat for Humanity gets state grant funding

COLUMBUS − The Ohio Department of Development recently awarded $26.9 million in Welcome Home Ohio grants to expand safe, affordable housing in 57 counties. This includes $400,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio for purchase of property and $600,000 for rehabilitation or construction of nine homes. The organizations services Athens, Columbiana, Fairfield, Gallia, Guernsey, Hocking, Holmes, Jackson, Lawrence, Mahoning, Meigs, Morgan, Muskingum, Noble, Perry, Pickaway, Pike, Ross, Scioto, Trumbull, Vinton and Washington counties.

FAO awards civics education grants

NELSONVILLE − The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio in partnership with the Longaberger Family Foundation recently awarded 17 grants totaling $47,028 to support civics education across the region. This includes the Muskingum County Community Foundation to support Lead Local, a year-long program for youth to learn about civic structures and practice civic leadership by addressing real community needs.

SCW wrestling show on June 6

ZANESVILLE − Southern Championship Wrestling will have a show on June 6 at the Jackson Street Civic Center, 928 Jackson St. Doors open at 6 p.m. with bell time of 7 p.m. Admission is $10 with kids age 5 and younger free.

Safe babysitting class offered

ZANESVILLE −A babysitting course for teens and pre-teens who babysit, care for younger siblings or are home alone is offered from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 8 or June 19 at the Genesis HealthPlex. Topics will included first aid, safety, injury prevention, CPR (non-certified) and how to choose safe toys and games for kids. The course is offered by Genesis Women’s Services. Cost is $50 and will include a training handbook, pizza lunch, two snacks and drinks. Register at genesishcs.org, under classes and events.

● Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center Governing Board will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. June 8 at the board office, 205 N. Seventh St.
