Tyler Welsh joined the department Nov. 10 and replaces interim Chief Anthony Oliver, who had been serving in that role since July, the village announced in a news release.

Welsh, a veteran, has more than a decade of experience in law enforcement, working in patrol and investigative divisions, as well as in tactical operations and program development, according to the village.

He recently served as a sergeant and drone team commander with Lancaster police, supervising patrol officers and leading specialized drone operations, the release states.

“We are honored to welcome Chief Welsh to the Village of Hebron,” Hebron Mayor Valerie Mockus said in the release. “His leadership experience, technical expertise, and dedication to community safety make him exceptionally well suited to guide the Hebron Police Department into its next chapter.”

Welsh also served as a military police officer during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, which the U.S. launched in response to the 9/11 attacks. He oversaw a drone program and electronic citation system with Lancaster police, according to the release.

“It is a privilege to serve the residents of Hebron,” Welsh said in the release. “I look forward to building strong relationships, supporting our officers, and continuing the department’s commitment to professionalism and community trust.”

Welsh steps in for Oliver, who filled the role for four months after Brooks’ retirement. Oliver joined Hebron police as a full-time officer in 2011, and the department promoted him to sergeant in 2019 before he became interim chief. Brooks spent 31 years with the department.
