Gutierrez Deli is closing after nearly 15 years in Covington.
The family-owned eatery and grocery store announced June 9 on Facebook that it will close its storefront at 1131 Lee St. in Covington. According to the post, Gutierrez Deli, which originally opened in 2012, said its landlord will not renew the lease.
The owners said they must vacate the building by July 1.
The family went on to write that the deli became a gathering place for neighbors and generations of customers and played a major role in building their family’s life and identity.
Gutierrez Deli looking for ‘next home’
“This store has been so much more than a business,” the Facebook post reads. “Gutierrez Deli helped shape who we are, and we are deeply saddened to see this chapter come to an end.”
Despite the closure, the family said it is “not ready to give up on Gutierrez Deli.” They are currently seeking more information on available storefronts, buildings and other opportunities that could “become the next home” for Gutierrez Deli.
“We believe there is still a place for us in Covington, and we hope this is not goodbye forever,” the family wrote.
“Thank you for every order, every recommendation, every kind word, and every ounce of support you’ve shown our family over the last 15 years. We wouldn’t be here without you. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Covington,” the post continued.
