The Food Independence Summit, a hands-on experience designed to help take control of food, health and the future, will be held Wednesday and Thursday, June 18-19, at Timbercrest Camp and RV Park, just north of Walnut Creek, on state Route 515.
Because of paving on state Route 515, visitors are advised to enter from the north end of 515.
The event includes two days of speakers such as farmer Joel Salatin, entrepreneur Calley Means, Dr. Julian Douwes of Germany, television producer Del Bigtree and agronomist Neal Kinsey, among others, along with workshops connecting on the values homegrown and local food.
Expert insights and interactive workshops designed to equip people with confidence and tools to live more sustainably is what visitors to the Food Indiepence Summit can expect.

Important traffic information
With the resurfacing project on state Route 515 from Walnut Creek north to U.S, Route Route 62, a spokesman for Timbercrest recommends visitors enter from the north on state Route 515 (from the Winesburg area) as the scheduled paving will have the state route closed from the south.
“From what I heard, they will be closing the road completely from Walnut Creek up to the Erb’s Tarp Shop,” said Christina Hershberger. “We’re planning on having everyone come in from the north. We have been notifying all of our guests and we have some large signs for detours posted as well. The construction company is aware of our event and knows there will be quite a few cars coming through.”
