The civil rights organization aims to enable African Americans and underserved communities to achieve economic, social and health equality. The credit union has 13 branches in Northeast Ohio. They announced the credit card on June 20, the day after Juneteenth.

“This Affinity Urban League card is more than a financial tool — it’s a symbol of shared purpose,” Thomas West, the league’s president and CEO, said in a prepared statement. “Each transaction represents an investment in equity, access, and opportunity for our community. We’re proud to partner with 717 Credit Union to turn everyday spending into lasting impact.”

A portion of each transaction made with the card will be reinvested into Urban League programs and initiatives. The card has no annual fee and an APR of 7.17% to 22.99%.

John Demmler, the credit union’s president and CEO, described the card as another way the business is investing in local people and communities.

“At 717, we believe that banking should be about more than transactions — it should be about transformation,” he said. “Partnering with the Urban League on this Affinity Card reflects our mission to serve with purpose.”
