Madison D. Danley, of Canton, was going into her junior year at Canton McKinley High School, according to the obituary posted online by the the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home in Bergholz, located about 40 miles southeast of Canton in Jefferson County.

“Her nieces and nephew will deeply miss their aunt’s affectionate and caring presence,” the memorial tribute said. “Madison’s impact on her family was enduring, leaving behind countless cherished memories, and she was loved deeply by all.

“While her time with us was too short, Madison’s legacy of love will remain with us always. She is now our beautiful angel.”

She died at Akron Children’s Hospital, where she had been taken on July 13 after being under water for seven to eight minutes in a lake at Wood’s Tall Timber Resort in Tuscarawas County’s Goshen Township, near New Philadelphia.

A GoFundMe appeal established by her sister Samantha said Madison drowned after a seizure.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office has not ruled on the cause and manner of death.

The fundraiser is seeking money for Madison’s hospital bills and funeral expenses.

“She fought as hard as she could for almost 24 hours but unfortunately (God) took her home with him and we are all lost, devastated and heartbroken,” Samantha wrote on the GoFundMe announcement.

Madison, an Akron native, was the daughter of Adam and Lori (Wood) Danley. She was preceded in death by her sister, Kylee Jo Wood, and her paternal grandparents, Donald and Dolores Danley.

In addition to her parents, Madison is survived by her sisters, Danielle (Luke) Kerns and Samantha Danley; her maternal grandparents, Sadie and Frank Heeter; her nieces, Paisley, Kallie, Kinsley, Elena, and Ariana; her nephew, Ace; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on July 17 at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 285 Second St., Bergholz. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on at 11 a.m. July 18.
