From imaginative fantasy creatures and playful animals to thoughtful self-portraits and detailed landscapes, the exhibit highlights the unique ways the young artists interpret the world around them, according to a community announcement.

A Playground of Talent will be on display at the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum, 300 N. Whitewoman St. An opening will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. March 22. The exhibit runs through April 19.

The elementary portion of the exhibit highlights artwork by students in kindergarten through sixth grade from Coshocton city and county schools, as well as homeschooled students. Each piece is selected by the students’ art teachers in recognition of creativity, skill and individual expression.

The high school gallery features works by talented young artists from Ridgewood High School, Coshocton High School, River View High School, Coshocton Opportunity School and local homeschool programs. Selected by high school art instructors for their outstanding quality and artistic merit, the pieces represent a diverse range of styles and techniques.

Media will include watercolor, acrylic, graphite, digital art, sculpture, ceramics and other three-dimensional forms.

Student entries will be evaluated by a panel of local artists, with awards presented in three categories: 2-Dimensional Art, 3-Dimensional Art and Black and White. The high school exhibit demonstrates not only technical skill, but also thoughtful exploration of themes, personal identity and contemporary issues through art.
