Fremont Memorial Day had sunny skies

FREMONT- Despite a weekend of rain, Memorial Day skies cleared and welcomed a parade and other activities downtown on May 25.

Clouds gave way to beautiful sunny skies and mild temperatures, just in time for the start of the parade through downtown Fremont to Roger Young Park.

Crowds lined Front Street and watched patriotic groups, tractors, youth groups and business-themed floats, along with the Fremont Ross Marching Band. Children were treated to candy thrown from people walking and riding in the parade.

To start the morning, Memorial Day services were held at the Sandusky County Courthouse. Speeches were given and wreaths were laid in honor of Sandusky County service personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice. The service ended with many, including the Honor Guard from VFW Post 2947 and local civic groups, paying their respects to the fallen. The playing of “Taps” ended the solemn ceremony.
