Bruce Thornton continues to look right at home in Las Vegas, as he led his Houston Rockets to a 100-83 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday evening.
The former Ohio State standout, a second-round selection of the Rockets in the NBA draft, has stacked good scoring performances with efficient box score numbers during the entire Summer League campaign. Thornton’s performance in his fourth game was no different. He led all scorers with 23 points, reaching double figures in four straight games and counting.
Along with his 23 points, Thornton had 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals while shooting 7-13 from the field. His 3-point shot also has been consistent, and he made 2-4 in the victory over Brooklyn. He has piled on steals throughout the summer by jumping passing lanes and applying ball pressure to ignite Houston’s transition.
Houston traded up in the second round to draft the Ohio State legend, and with every passing day, they are made to look like geniuses. Thornton has been one of the Rockets’ most consistent performers thus far, and Thursday’s 17-point victory adds another data point to his burgeoning résumé.
Houston head coach Ime Udoka will now have to work with his coaching staff and carve out a bigger role for Thornton. If his Summer League performance suggests anything, it’s that it could end up being one of the best trades the organization has ever made.
