Former Ohio State coach and 2014 national champion Urban Meyer will ring the victory bell ahead of the Ohio State-Penn State game on Nov. 1, the team announced on social media.
The announcement comes after FOX revealed that “Big Noon Kickoff” would be in Columbus for the Big Ten contest. The pregame show features Meyer as part of its cast.
While at Ohio State, Meyer went 6-1 against the Nittany Lions. The lone loss was an upset in which the No. 2 Buckeyes fell to an unranked Penn State team at Beaver Stadium in 2016. The Nittany Lions blocked an Ohio State field goal attempt and returned it for a touchdown to take a 24-21 fourth-quarter lead that the Buckeyes would never get back.
Meyer joins a short list of victory bell ringers that also includes two-time Heisman winner Archie Griffin, former head coach John Cooper, and Buckeyes men’s basketball legends Clark Kellogg and Michael Redd.
The pregame victory bell tradition is part of Ohio State’s “Tradition Evolved” campaign to boost the gameday atmosphere at 2025 football games.
The victory bell is still rung after Ohio State wins by members of Alpha Chi Omega, but the new tradition also calls for a Buckeye legend to ring the bell before the game. Those special guests are handpicked by an Alpha Chi Omega ambassador and Griffin, the first victory bell ringer of the 2025 season.
