Former Ohio State and current Buckeyes’ beat writer Kirk Barton has found himself in trouble again, this time in more tragic terms. The former All-American was taken into custody after a fatal crash in which his Ford F-150 Raptor pickup struck and killed 24-year-old Ethan Wence Perry, according to a post on the City of Dublin’s website.
Barton has been charged with aggravated vehicular manslaughter, a second-degree felony, following a the fatal car crash on June 21 in Dublin, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. Though no speed has been specified, Barton was allegedly speeding at the time of the accident, according to the report.
The crash occurred at approximately 3 a.m. as Barton was traveling eastbound on U.S. 33. Barton crashed into Perry’s westbound Lexus on West Bridge Street Dublin officials told The Columbus Dispatch. Perry was pronounced dead at the scene.
Barton was taken into custody after being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He’s being held at the James A. Karnes Corrections Center and no bond has been set, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s office. Barton is scheduled to appear at Franklin County Municipal Court on Monday, June 23.
