Cleveland Browns’ legend Myles Garrett adds an ESPY to his Trophy Case on Wednesday Night
Former Cleveland Browns superstar Myles Garrett added another award to his name. On Wednesday night, Garrett received the ESPY Award for Best Record-Breaking Performance for setting the all-time sack record.
Garrett needed every bit of the 17-game season to get the job done, but he got it done nonetheless.
Garrett saved his best for his final season in Cleveland. From game one to game 17, he was virtually unblockable, and while everyone will remember the sack of Joe Burrow to set the record, he had some really memorable performances along the way.
The one that stands out head and shoulders amongst the rest was his five-sack performance against the New England Patriots. We all know how that game finished up, but on that day, Garrett was completely and totally unblockable.
In Cleveland’s major matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders in Vegas, Garrett brought his A-Game. He finished that game against the Raiders, who were playing okay at the time, by getting to the quarterback 3.0 times, but had six quarterback hits in the game. He was all over the field and was a major reason why the Browns were able to get a nice 24-10 victory.
Garrett always saved his best for Burrow and the Bengals. While the sack that will live forever happened at Cincinnati, he had 2.0 sacks in week one in a game that the Browns absolutely feel as though they should have won. Then, in Week 17, the Browns did get the win in Garrett’s final game in Cleveland. The exclamation point, and shoutout to Burrow, was a true dropback where Garrett turned the edge and toppled over Burrow.
The two have always had incredible respect for each other, and it always showed through. There was no one in the world happier on June 1st when that trade went through than Joe Burrow, as he no longer had to deal with Garrett twice per year.
Garrett recorded a sack in 13 of the 17 games last season, and while he had 23.0 total sacks, he finished the year with an astounding 39 quarterback pressures.
If Garrett ended his career today, he would be a first ballot Hall-of-Fame selection. Now that he takes his talents to Southern California, his team is a major frontrunner to win the Super Bowl. If he adds one title, maybe two to his resume, he is going to be the quickest vote to the Hall of Fame there, maybe ever has been.
Garrett gave everything he had to Cleveland, and it never worked out. His final, lasting memory as a Brown is going to be the record-setting sack against the Bengals in 2025. It will live in Browns lore forever, and for him, it also netted him the ESPY for the Best Record-Breaking Performance.
