PLAIN TWP − A 6-year-old boy died May 29 after a fire in the 2500 block of Cathy Drive NE, the Stark County sheriff’s office said.
A man and a 4-year-old child were also transported to hospitals from that fire, which was reported shortly before 5:08 p.m.
The man was in stable condition, and the second child was listed as being in critical but stable condition, the sheriff’s statement said, adding that investigators from the sheriff’s office and the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office are trying to determine the cause.
The sheriff’s office did not in its initial statement release the names of the boy who was killed or the man and child who were hospitalized.
The other agencies besides the Plain Township Fire Department that responded to the scene were the fire departments for Nimishillen Township, Canton and Canton Township.
(This story has been updated to correct the children’s ages; previous information from the sheriff’s office was incorrect. This breaking news story will be updated as more information becomes available.)
