Enquirer names Cincinnati high school athletes of the week, May 29

In a vote that ended May 29, Cincinnati.com readers selected the 2025-2026 Cincinnati Enquirer/Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through May 24.

Winners can print their certificates from this week starting Monday and other weeks now using this Drop Box link. Send a photo of the winners with their certificates for our photo gallery.

Here are this week’s winners.

Ohio big-school baseball team: St. Xavier – The Bombers surged late to beat Lebanon, 4-3, then raced past Milford for a 9-1 win.

Ohio small-school baseball team: East Clinton – East Clinton has won three straight following a 7-2 postseason victory against Georgetown.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana baseball team: Conner – Conner claimed the 33rd District title with a 10-3 win against Ryle.

Ohio big-school softball team: Little Miami – Little Miami edged out Edgewood, 4-3, then secured a 13-0 shutout against Ursuline Academy to win the sectional title.

Ohio small-school softball team: Taylor – Taylor shut out Fenwick 10-0 to advance to the sectional title game against Indian Lake.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana softball team: Bishop Brossart – Bishop Brossart earned the 37th District title after a 17-0 shutout of Calvary Christian and a 4-1 victory against Campbell County.

Boys spring team: Fenwick volleyball – The Falcons beat La Salle on May 19 and reverse-swept Loveland on May 23 to win the Region 8 championship.

Girls spring team: Mariemont lacrosse – The top team in Region 8 opened the tournament by beating Edgewood 21-0 and Madeira 20-2.

Ohio big-school baseball: Jared Lammers, Elder – The senior had two hits, two runs and three RBIs in a 9-1 win over McNicholas.

Ohio small-school baseball: Charlie Kantz, Taylor – He pitched 8.2 innings and struck out 11 batters in Taylor’s postseason matchup against Bethel-Tate, a 4-2 win in nine innings. At the plate, he walked twice and hit a triple.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana big-school baseball: Grayson Wagner, Conner – The senior hit two home runs and a single and drove in six in a 10-3 win over Ryle in the 33rd District final.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana small-school baseball: Cy Parento, St. Henry – The freshman pitched a complete game in a 9-2 win over Lloyd in the 34th District semifinals, allowing two hits, two unearned runs and striking out seven.

Ohio boys lacrosse: Tyler Allard, Milford – The senior recorded five goals in a 15-0 win against Springboro, also tallying three goals and an assist in a 13-1 win over Sycamore.

Ohio girls lacrosse: Mary McIntosh, Mariemont – The Junior netted two goals and recorded 6 assists in a 20-2 playoff win over Madeira.

Ohio big-school softball: Ava Cosgray, St. Ursula – She went 4-for-5 with two doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored as the Bulldogs scored five runs in the seventh inning to beat Mount Notre Dame in a district semifinal.

Ohio small-school softball: Anna Prosser, Taylor – Her three-RBI triple helped the Yellowjackets defeat Fenwick in a district semifinal.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana softball: Paige Lachmann, Holy Cross – The junior hit two doubles, drove in three runs and scored two runs to help the Indians come back to beat Beechwood in a district semifinal.

Boys singles tennis: Bode Zappin, Loveland – The freshman finished fourth at the Division I district tournament, qualifying for the OHSAA state tournament.

Boys doubles tennis team: Neel Reddy/Andrew Dunaway, Beechwood – They opened the Kentucky High School Athletic Association tournament with a 6-2, 6-2 win over GRC and a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Bourbon County.

Northern Kentucky girls singles tennis: Natalie Elleman, Conner – In the KHSAA tournament opener, won 6-2, 6-2 against Somerset Christian.

Northern Kentucky girls doubles tennis: Bethany Arnett/Aurora Sandfoss, Conner – They won their first match at the KHSAA first-round tournament, getting a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

Ohio boys track and field: Caleb Brinkmoeller, Taylor – He won DIII district titles in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 8 inches and won the long jump with a distance of 20 feet, 2.5 inches.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys track and field: Brody Aylor, Beechwood – He won the Class 1A 200-meter dash state title by tying his personal best of 22.73 seconds. He also ran on the state champion 4×100-meter relay with Nathan Pabst, Cole Hoskins and Chase McDaniel.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys track and field relay team: Beechwood – Gannon Parke, Elijah Muck, Braxton Lindloff and Charlie Skeen won the Class 1A 4×800-meter relay state title in 8:27.88.

Ohio girls track and field: Lucy Marketos, Kings – She set a DII district record to win the 3,200-meter run in 11:21.47. He also took third place in the 1,600-meter run in 5:13.37.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls track and field: Ava Walters, Bishop Brossart – She won back-to-back Class 1A discus state titles, thanks to a new state meet record of 133 feet, 5 inches, and claimed her third straight shot put state title with a throw of 38 feet.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls track and field relay team: Walton-Verona – Abrielle Hooten, Maci Pettit, Josie Holtzapple and Maggie Meyer won the Class 1A 4×200-meter relay state title with a time of 1:47.5, over two seconds faster than the second-place team.

Ohio boys volleyball: Will Lenz, Fenwick – In the regional semifinals against La Salle, the senior hit .650 with 13 kills, eight digs and passed a 2.69. Against Loveland in the regional final, he had 17 kills, six digs and two blocks while passing a 2.14.

The Enquirer will no longer mail certificates to schools after getting feedback that families weren’t receiving them. Alex Harrison will make digital copies of all certificates available to families by 8 a.m. the Monday after the Friday win. Families will access the PDFs through this public Dropbox link.
