Feeling the pinch at the pump? AAA offers tips on cutting gas costs

It’s no secret that the cost to fuel up vehicles has climbed over the past month.

According to information released May 4 by the American Automobile Association, gas prices are 98 cents higher in Northeast Ohio this week at $4.910 per gallon.

The national average for gas is seeing a 34-cent hike in one week, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report. The national average is $1.29 higher than it was this time last year, as oil prices surge above $100/barrel with no indication of when the Strait of Hormuz will reopen. Gas prices are the highest they’ve been in four years, since late July 2022.

According to AAA, studies have repeatedly shown that personal driving habits are the single biggest factor that affects vehicle fuel consumption. To save on a vehicle’s gas mileage:

In addition, AAA research has found that unless premium fuel is recommended or required by your car’s manufacturer, it provides no added benefit. Motorists should refer to their vehicle’s owner’s manual to check which type of gasoline is recommended for their engine.
