Cincinnati Reds infielder Elly De La Cruz attended an NBA game between the Phoenix Suns and the New Orleans Pelicans, and made a free throw during a break in the action to win $10,000 for charity.
De La Cruz celebrated the shot with the Suns’ Gorilla mascot, and then signed the basketball.
The Reds shared video via Twitter/X of Elly’s shot from the charity stripe.
“Side quest @ellylacocoa18,” reads the Reds’ caption. “Elly De La Cruz sank a free throw at the @Suns game for $10,000 to charity!”
De La Cruz was not in the Reds’ lineup for a spring-training loss to the San Francisco Giants earlier in the day.
