The NFL cuts candidate conversations are worth briefly revisiting for the Cincinnati Bengals right now.
Reason being, the June 1 annual landmark for roster cuts is almost here.
NFL teams often use post-June 1 designations on cuts, or outright wait until after June 1 to make certain cuts, so that they can freely shift certain cap hits to future years.
The Bengals don’t really have anyone of note on this topic right now, though.
Defensive tackle TJ Slaton was one at a certain point this offseason. According to Over the Cap, cutting Slaton with a post-June 1 designation would save the Bengals $6.6 million against the cap.
Barring a shocker like an Andrei Iosivas ($3.67 million in post-June 1 savings), the other obvious candidate is linebacker Oren Burks ($2.3 million in savings).
But again, the Bengals haven’t even bothered to do a Joe Burrow contract restructure to save serious cap space ($19.2 million) despite the big offseason spending, so they’re clearly not in a hurry to make more room.
