Division II and IV track and field athletes punch tickets to regionals

Regional track and field tournament berths have been claimed by several area athletes after the completion of the Division II and IV district meets on Friday, May 22.

Let’s meet those athletes who will be representing North Central Ohio in the next round of the track and field postseason.

Division II district track highlights and qualifiers

The Division II district track and field championships concluded on May 22 at Tiffin Columbian and saw several big performances from area athletes.

Lexington’s Latrell Hughes won a Division II district championship in the 800-meter run with a blistering time of 1:51.88. Teammate Trevor Reed is also moving on in the event after taking third with a 1:56.02. The Lexington distance duo of John Bartone and Gage Devaney are headed to the regional meet in the 1,600-meter run. Bartone took third in the district meet with a 4:27.11 and Devaney was right behind him with a 4:27.51.

Ashland’s Dakota Kruty won the Division II district championship in the 200-meter dash with a winning time of 22.85 and also punched his ticket to the regional meet in the 100-meter dash by taking third in the finals with a 11.32 to nab a qualifying spot in both events. Teammate Harley O’Brien grabbed the final qualifying spot in the 110-meter hurdles by taking fourth with a 15.22.

Ashland’s Braden Dontaini won a Division II district championship in the 300-meter hurdles by running a 39.24 while Lexington’s Latrell Hughes earned an automatic qualifying spot by taking third with a 40.04.

Madison’s Elijah Pointer is moving on to the regional meet in the 200-meter dash as he took third in the event with a 23.02. The Madison quartet of Jayden Hall, Camden Moysi, Daniel Norris and Julius Walker took second in the 4×400-meter relay with a 3:24.86, earning an automatic regional bid along with the Lexington quartet of Nathan Reed, Dantrell Hughes, Cam Glennon and Will Hooper, which took third with a 3:25.26 and the Ashland team of Braden Donatini, Ty Bates, Harley O’Brien and Brady Anderson which took fourth with a 3:25.66.

The Ashland quartet of Kruty, O’Brien, Braden Donatini and Jayden Colvin took second in the 4×100-meter relay with a 43.54 while Lexington’s Cam Glennon, Cohen Lautzenhiser, Kingston Peterson and Eben Cochran were fourth with a 43.73 to take the final automatic qualifying spot. Glennon, Peterson and Cochran joined Dantrell Hughes on the second-place 4×200-meter relay team that ran a 1:29.98 to move on to regionals.

Ashland’s Greyson Blough won the Division II district championship in the boys shot put competition with a toss of 52-10.00 and Madison’s Jaxin Stancombe took third with a 51-09.00 sending both to the regional meet.

Madison’s Alexander Moore and Ashland’s Jayden Colvin will move on to regionals in the boys high jump. Moore took second at districts clearing 6-01 and Colvin cleared 6-feet to take third.

Ashland’s Sadie Walter highlighted the girls results by winning the Division II district championship in the 100-meter dash with a 12.48, the 100-meter hurdles with a 15.00 and the 300-meter hurdles with a 46.01 to take home district crowns in all three events. Teammate Oaklynn Burns is moving on in the 200-meter dash after taking third with a 26.44 and Alyssa Sampson took fourth in the 400-meter dash with a 1:00.60 to also move on. Aliviah Sauder was third in the 800 with a 2:25.35. Sampson, Burns, Walter and Frankie Rupsis teamed up to take second in the 4×100-meter relay with a 50.27 and Evelyn Brockway, Burns, MeKenna Oslie and Sampson were fourth in the 4×200-meter relay with a 1:49.26 earning a regional spot in both events.

Ashland’s Alanah Cole took third in the girls pole vault clearing 9-feet to earn a regional spot.

On Wednesday, the Lexington quartet of Nathan Reed, Trevor Reed, Will Hooper and Clay Hooper won a Division II district championship in the 4×800-meter relay with a blistering time of 8:01.29. The Ashland team of Brady Thompson, Jack Parsons, Jonah Coffee and Brady Anderson took second with an 8:13.58 as both teams punched tickets to next week’s regional meet.

Ashland’s Ava Cline is also regional bound after running an 11:49.89 in the 3,200-meter run to take second overall. Lexington’s Lincoln Rice and Luke Haring advanced out of the boys 3,200-meter run race as Rice took second with a 9:35.85 and Haring was fourth with a 9:48.51.

Ashland’s Kelsey Kaeser is advancing in the girls shot put competition after taking third at the district meet with a toss of 33-08.25 while teammate Greyson Blough is making his way out in the discus by taking third in the boys competition with a toss of 145-02.

Ashland’s Dakota Kruty and Lexington’s Cam Glennon made their way out in the boys long jump competition. Kruty took second overall with a leap of 21-06.50 while Glennon was third with a 20-11.00.

In boys pole vault, Lexington’s Eli Barr took second overall with a vault of 12-06 while Ashland’s Ty Bates was fourth clearing 12-feet. They both will vault in next week’s regional meet.

Division IV district track highlights and qualifiers

The Division IV district track and field championships concluded on May 22 at Fostoria and saw several big performances from Crestview athletes.

Max Durbin is moving on in the 110-meter hurdles after taking third with a 15.64 and second in the 300-meter hurdles with a 40.35.

Layne Robinson was third in the high jump clearing 6-02 to earn a regional spot.

The quartet of Devon Hickey, Tori Kidney, Logan Moore and Bella Grant took third in the district meet with a 51.57 to earn a regional berth.

Chloe Ringler was third in the girls discus competition with a toss of 116-06.

On Wednesday, Kaelyn Weaver took runner-up honors in the girls high jump competition by clearing 5-feet. She will jump next week at regionals.

The duo of Danika Kingman and Chloe Ringler also advanced out in the girls shot put competition. Kingman recorded a toss of 33-02.75 to take third overall and Chloe Ringler tossed the shot 33-02.75 to take fourth.

Liam Kuhn won the district title in the boys pole vault clearing 13-04 to make his way to the regional meet while sister Zoe Kuhn will join her brother after she took second in the girls pole vault with a leap of 10-04.

The Top 4 in each event earned an automatic regional qualifying spot. It is likely more athletes will be moving on when at-large bids are announced at the completion of all district meets from around the state.
