Damian Lillard asks about Miami RedHawks' NCAA tournament bid chances

Even if the tweet isn’t worded exactly how Miami RedHawks’ fans might want it, the fact that NBA star Damian Lillard is tweeting about the 19th-ranked, undefeated team from Oxford, Ohio, is something.

“Can somebody explain to me how Miami OH should/would not get an automatic bid?” Lillard tweeted. “I’m confused …”

The RedHawks will, of course, receive the Mid-American Conference’s NCAA tournament automatic bid if they win the MAC tournament, which starts March 12.

Miami clinched the top seed in the MAC tournament with its 30th win of the season.

Many, including ESPN’s Joe Lunardi and Dick Vitale, have argued on social media that the RedHawks would be deserving of an at-large bid, even if they don’t win the conference tourney.

Miami’s regular-season finale against the Ohio Bobcats in Athens is scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN2.

RedHawks head coach Travis Steele told ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt that he believes Miami can be a second-weekend team in the NCAA tournament.
