At this point, I would bet that many of us in marginalized communities are wondering who Connie Pillich is.
We celebrated her historic win (the first Democratic prosecutor in Hamilton County in over a century) with the hope that many of our neglected issues would be addressed. But she seems to be following the path of her many predecessors, like Joe Deters and others, who lead us through a web of deception without any hope of a win.
Pillich recently ruled that no charges would be filed against the neo-Nazi demonstrators who occupied an overpass on I-75 near Lincoln Heights earlier this year, citing that none of their behavior was prosecutable. Then on Tuesday, she announced that the Cincinnati police officer who shot and killed 18-year-old Ryan Hinton was “legally justified” in his actions and the case would not be sent to a grand jury. The Elwood Jones case finds Pillich stalled with apathy for fear that a positive action would perhaps show her true allegiance to the status quo.
So, who is Connie Pillich, a wannabe Republican whose true self desires to remain within the status quo, or a steward for the people who trusted her with their vote?
Time will tell.
