Columbus man wanted in fatal road-rage shooting arrested in Connecticut

A Columbus man charged in a fatal road-rage shooting in November that killed a 22-year-old woman was arrested by police in Connecticut in connection with a separate shooting there.

Meriden, Connecticut, police arrested Khaliq Hunt, 23, on May 12 after a chase, according to an announcement on their Facebook page. Hunt has an active warrant for his arrest in the Nov. 2 fatal shooting of Hannah Taylor, 22, in Columbus’ Linden area that Columbus police allege stems from a road rage incident.

According to Meriden police, Hunt matched the description of a suspect in a shooting earlier that evening. Members of the police department’s Crime Suppression Unit tried to contact Hunt when he ran, police alleged in the post.

Officers arrested Khaliq after a brief chase, police said. They allege they found a 9mm pistol on him, as well as narcotics they allege he threw while running from police. Hunt did not have a valid permit for the pistol as required under Connecticut law, police allege, and officers learned he had an active arrest warrant in Columbus in connection with the November shooting.

Connecticut prosecutors charged Hunt with possession of narcotics, carrying a pistol without a permit, interfering with an officer and crossing an intersection diagonally while not in a crosswalk, according to online court records.

Hunt remains in jail in lieu of a $4 million bond and is awaiting extradition to Franklin County, where he faces a murder charge in Taylor’s death.
