Millennium Force seat belts at Cedar Point are too tight

The park has fielded complaints and concerns since opening day earlier this month about the snug fit of the seat belts on the Millennium Force roller coaster.

Some turned to social media saying they were no longer able to buckle the seat belt on a recent visit to the Six Flags park despite the fact they were able to ride last season and had not gained any weight.

Park spokesman Tony Clark said May 16 that the coaster’s manufacturer Intamin supplies the coaster’s seat belts.

And it has been discovered, Clark said, that the seat belts that are now on the coaster are “shorter” than the manufacturer’s specifications.

“We are working with them to replace the belts in the coming weeks,” he said.

The Millennium Force is among the park’s most famous and popular coasters and the issues with the tighter belts have reportedly led to delays in dispatching the trains and some guests having to be turned away because the new belts would not buckle.

When it opened in 2000, the coaster was the first to top 300 feet and had the longest drop on record and was then the fastest at 93 mph.
