Update, 3:45 p.m.: Interim Police Chief Adam Hennie said the victim of the abduction and Cromwell were known to each other.
Cromwell had told the victim that he was not going to jail and that he was going to die through “suicide by cop,” according to Hennie.
Officers did not deploy Tasers before shooting Cromwell.
Update, 3:30 p.m.: The man shot by police in Green Township on Aug. 15 has died, according to officials.
Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval made the announcement during a press conference on Sunday, Aug. 16.
Interim Police Chief Adam Hennie said Timothy Cromwell, 23, “made an aggressive movement” with a knife toward officers. Several officers fired multiple rounds until Cromwell was stopped, Hennie said.
Original story: City officials are giving an update this afternoon after police shot a man during a reported kidnapping on Saturday.
Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval, City Manager Sheryl Long and Interim Police Chief Adam Hennie are holding a news conference at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 16 to update the public about the police shooting.
Around 4 p.m. Aug. 15, Cincinnati police received a 911 call reporting a kidnapping. Officers identified a car associated with the abduction in Westwood, but police spokesman Brad Underwood said the driver refused to pull over.
A pursuit ensued into Green Township. The driver crashed in the area of Werk Road and Visitation Drive. Underwood said the driver exited the car and shots were fired.
Both Cincinnati and Green Township police were on the scene. It is unclear who shot the man or how many shots were fired.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was hospitalized. His condition is unknown.
The victim of the abduction was also hospitalized and their condition is unknown as well, Enquirer media partner Fox19 reported.
