An “intruder” set fire to a Planned Parenthood overnight in Mount Auburn, law enforcement and company officials said.
Forty firefighters responded after 11 p.m. Thursday, April 9, when a fire alarm activated at 2314 Auburn Ave. in Mount Auburn, according to Cincinnati police and fire department records.
The fire was caused by an intruder who entered the Planned Parenthood, according to an afternoon statement by Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio President and CEO Nan Whaley. She called the fire an “attack.”
A storage room on the first floor was burning, according to a city release. The fire was contained by the building’s sprinkler system, officials said.
“Crews were on scene for approximately an hour and a half removing smoke and limitingwater damage from the sprinkler activation,” the report stated.
The fire caused about $75,000 worth of damage, the report stated. No one was inside at the time, police said.
Cincinnati police did not disclose information about the intruder in its release. A fire department report did not provide info about the cause of the fire.
The fire department requested a fire specialist respond for an investigation.
The clinic was open April 10.
