CHILLICOTHE — A search warrant executed in June has led to the recent indictment of a Chillicothe man on multiple felony drug and weapons charges.
Todd Bost, an investigator for the Ross County Prosecutor’s Office, said detectives served the warrant on a Hearn Street residence, in reference to drug trafficking. There they encountered two females and Karl Ponder.
“Officers found three individual bags inside a black bag containing an unknown powder in the upstairs bathroom,” Bost said. “Also, in the bathroom was a bag of white powder. They found a rifle upstairs, along with another rifle in the bathroom, and then a shotgun was found in the garage shed.” The substances were identified as 36.52 grams of fentanyl, 6.38 grams of para-fluorofentanyl, 10.22 grams of meth, and 1.47 grams of cocaine.
Ponder was indicted on multiple charges, including two counts of possession of a fentanyl-related compound, one count of trafficking in a fentanyl-related compound, possession of cocaine, aggravated possession of drugs and three counts of having weapons while under disability. The charges include two first-degree felonies, five third-degree felonies and one fifth-degree felony.
If convicted on all counts, he could face more than 20 years in prison and fines of more than $40,000.
During the July 24 Ross County grand jury session, 18 cases were heard, and all were returned as true bills. There are eight open cases.
