Canton Twp. pastor charged with vehicular homicide, child endangering

CANTON − A 26-year-old Canton Township pastor has been charged with vehicular homicide and felony child endangering.

The Rev. Rushon T. Patterson II, lead pastor of Now Alive Kidz Church at 1023 Whipple Ave. NW, was arrested Sept. 12 stemming from an incident that occurred on Sept. 6.

According to Canton Municipal Court records, Patterson, who lives in Canton, allowed “a minor child to ride on the outside of a motor vehicle which the defendant was operating, which resulted in him falling off causing serious injury and then the minor child’s death.”

Further details were not immediately available.

An attempt by the Canton Repository to reach Patterson was unsuccessful.

In 2024, church founder Joann Macksyn lost her state certification to run Alive Now Home Care, a home for disabled adults amid numerous complaints and accusations of sexual and verbal abuse, untrained staff, and other violations.

The church is not affiliated with any other denomination.
