PERRY TWP. ‒ A 21-year-old Canton man is charged with making a threat and other offenses in connection with a dispute at a business on the morning of May 27.
A press release from Police Chief Bryan D. Taylor said the suspect was at Octapharma Plasma, 4510 Tuscarawas St. W, when he threatened to “shoot up” the business, causing a lockdown.
Police responded at 9:43 a.m.
When officers attempted to make contact, the suspect left on foot, leading officers into the West Manor Allotment, Taylor wrote in the announcement.
He said additional officers quickly responded to assist as officers worked to contain the area.
“Due to the seriousness of the threats and the active search for the suspect, the Canton Police Department K9 Unit was requested to assist,” Taylor wrote.
As officers continued their investigation and search efforts, information was developed that led responding officers to a residence on Homewood Avenue in the city of Canton.
At that time, police dog Orrey and his handler were tracking on foot toward the Homewood residence.
An officer responding to the area found the suspect and took him into custody without incident.
Taylor said Orrey’s tracking efforts and the coordinated response between agencies played an important role in bringing the incident to a safe conclusion.
“And yes — he’s a very good boy,” Taylor wrote.
The suspect is additionally charged with inducing panic, aggravated menacing, obstructing official business, resisting arrest and failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer.
Taylor expressed thanks on behalf of his department to the Canton Police Department and dispatching services run by Canton and the Stark County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance and coordination during the incident.
