CANTON ‒ Firefighters rescued two dogs from a burning home in the city’s northeast section on the morning of July 14.
The fire at 1453 Eastview Ave. NE was reported at 7:15 a.m. by neighbors, Canton Fire Department Division Chief Steven Henderson said.
“On arrival fire crews found heavy flames coming from the rear of the structure also involving a detached garage,” he said in a prepared statement. “When fire crews started to extinguish the fire and gain entry of the house, they saved two pit bulls that were inside the house. The owner was not home at the time of the fire but eventually arrived on scene. “
The first and second floors of the house have heavy fire and smoke damage, Henderson said.
“It will not be habitable and will be razed in the coming days,” he said. “The resident declined assistance from the Red Cross.”
The value of the damage to the structure is estimated at $28,600, and to the contents, $10,000.
The fire remains under investigation, with the cause and origin unknown.
Firefighters arrived around 7:19 a.m. and spent about 40 minutes getting the blaze under control.
No injury was reported.
