Bengals, Shemar Stewart talked contract, yet standoff continues

The Cincinnati Bengals continue to sit at a contract impasse with first-round pick Shemar Stewart.

According to USA Today’s Tyler Dragon, while the Bengals and Stewart did talk about the contract last week, no progress was made and the parties haven’t talked since.

The latest report meshes with what both parties have put out since Stewart left minicamp early and his agent made the interview rounds.

In short, the Bengals want to reset their contractual language around the voiding of guarantees, establishing a precedent with Stewart.

A different report accused the Bengals of offering dislikable language when it comes to standard injury waivers, which might explain why Stewart didn’t sign those waivers and practice with his teammates since being drafted.

Presumably, Stewart’s reps and the Bengals will talk again around the start of training camp, though little is guaranteed about his actually practicing then.
