When the Cincinnati Bengals used a third-round pick on Tacario Davis this year, it was sort of viewed as a fun little experiment on a project player who could have a situational use case as a rookie.
Davis has something to say about that idea, though.
As it turns out, Davis used one of the first days of OTAs to make a standout play.
The fun note, courtesy of Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com:
“Third-round pick Tacario Davis had a hand in the play of the day at cornerback during seven-on-seven when he broke on a pass over the middle ticketed to wide receiver Jordan Moore. The 6-4 Davis used that 80-inch wingspan to go over Moore’s back and tip the ball up in the air, and vet linebacker Oren Burks came up with the first pick of the spring …”
Davis might still peak as a tight-end-stopper in a situational role for the time being, but that’s a role they’ve needed to fill properly.
Regardless, the fact Davis is already making some noise this early in his rookie journey is nothing but a good sign for a rebuilding unit that sure wouldn’t mind a few surprises here and there.
