Authorities identified the male pedestrian, who died after a crash with a vehicle in Ventura on May 24.
Filiberto Cauich Chan, 39, was homeless, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. The 39-year-old man died from blunt force head injuries and his death was deemed an accident, agency officials said.
Shortly before 9 p.m., Ventura Police Department officers responded to calls of a crash between a pedestrian and a vehicle at Telephone Road and Victoria Avenue, according to a department news release.
Officers found the 39-year-old man and the vehicle with a 53-year-old male driver from Ventura after arriving on scene, Sgt. Mark Knackstedt of the department previously said.
Officers and paramedics provided aid to the 39-year-old man, who had major injuries, before he was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, the release says. The man “succumbed to his injuries” and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver of the vehicle involved, a Lexus, remained on scene and cooperated with investigators, Knackstedt said.
Drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, the release added.
Anyone with information on the incident should contact Officer Alex Garcia with the department at 805-339-4326.
