We’ve written often as of late that Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is starting to become an “ambassador” of sorts for the NFL.
In a very short amount of time, Burrow showed up late to seemingly help the NFL’s sinking Pro Bowl event. He also repped the NFL on what essentially was a global scale at a flag football tournament.
Turns out there’s some serious truth to the whole thing. As chronicled in a great piece from The Athletic’s Paul Dehner Jr., who spoke with former NFL wideout Larry Fitzgerald and others, Burrow has the ear of those very high up in the NFL right now.
“I was with him after the event,” Fitzgerald said. “We were talking to Commissioner (Roger) Goodell. The ideas he has on growing flag and expanding things in the league — he takes ownership.”
Burrow has talked often about finding joy outside of football. That’s obviously turned into helping grow the sport on a global scale.
The same desire to win championships in Cincinnati remains. But pushing the sport he loves is another and he’s taking the Bengals along for the ride: There’s plenty to be gained by the Bengals brand continuing to grow with Burrow, hence the international acclaim of the overseas game this year, for starters.
